Label TextAmerican-born artist James Earl painted seven members of the Beauclerk family in England, and Lady Mary was the youngest sitter. Prim and proper, her crisp, clean dress was made of muslin, a fabric recently introduced from India, and her broad brimmed hat protected her delicate skin from the sun. The shiny red cherries balance the flush in her cheeks and sparkle in her eyes.
