Label TextAs with his other nearby work, in People in Other Rooms, Jacob Lawrence finds beauty and texture in an everyday scene. The print shows the traditionally black neighborhood of Harlem, New York, where we see glimpses of men, women, and children going about their daily lives against the familiar backdrop of an American street. Built, lived in, and now documented, Lawrence’s city reflects progress and community. Placed side by side, both Lawrence prints speak to daily life as an integral part of our shared American identity.
